DEEPbrera International Design Workshop
Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan
School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering, Politecnico di Milano
DEEPbrera is an academic workshop conceived by Lorenzo Degli Esposti and organized by the School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, and by the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. This teaching format is based on the analysis and close reading of the well-known project for the new building for the art schools of the Accademia, developed in four phases by Terragni, Lingeri, Figini, Pollini, Mariani in the Thirties, in order to learn the compositional strategies and the formal outcomes. The analysis will be developed through a focus on the rationalist architecture of the period and on the authors’ biographies.
The reading on the precedent is preparatory to the design of 11 proposals of new spaces, in Milan, in order to enhance the historical heritage and the collections of Brera, and to reorganize and develop its structures of formation / teaching / production.
Practical activities will be combined with a lecture cycle on Italian and Milanese modern architecture, and its advancements and revisions through to today; artistic and compositional formal strategies; history and traditions of the teaching of art; relationships between figurative research and spatial experimentations. The teams will be composed of students of architecture and students of art, in order to activate virtuous synergies in search of the form, between abstraction, language, syntax, compositions, typology, function, site and the city.
